Name of Surah Maun:

This Surah has many names, as it is named “Ara’yta” by Al Bukhari. It is also named (addin, attakdhib, alyateem, and Al Maun). “Maun” is an Arabic word that means assistance, and may be “Zakat”, which means that some people prevent assistance to reach the Poor.
Why was this Surah revealed?
It was revealed as (Abu Sofian Ibn Harb) used to slay 2 Camels every week, and one day an Orphan came to him to take from the meat, then Abu Sofian reprimanded him. For that reason Allah revealed this verse to show the ill_treatment of Orphans
Simple explanation of Surah Maun:
The Holy Quran was revealed from Allah as a Mercy for the People. In the beginning of this Surah, Allah asked “have you seen who don’t believe in the day of Judgement?” Some people have hard hearts and have no Mercy to treat Orphans. These people don’t like to feed the Poor, and also don’t encourage other people to do so. There will be a torment for people who are inattentive in their prayers, and pray their prayers at times other than the specified times. As we know, prayer is the best worship to Allah, so we have to perform our prayers at the specified times. There also will be a torment for people who do good deeds not for Allah, but for other people to know and see. It’s a bad thing to prevent assistance to other people, and you know that this assistance is very important for their lives. This great Surah encourages us to honor the Orphan, pray our prayers at the specified times. Also it urges us to do all of the good deeds only for the sake of Allah no one other than Him.
