To know Hadith on patience, one has to know the 2 definitions of patience. 1. Patience in worshiping Allah: Patience in worshiping God is the quality of a good servant. Patience includes preserving in obedience to Allah, doing what He has commanded, and avoiding what is forbidden. The meaning will be clear when we recite this great Verse:رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَاعْبُدْهُ وَاصْطَبِرْ لِعِبَادَتِهِ ۚ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُ سَمِيًّا
“so worship Him and have the patience for His worship” (19:65). It is important to say that the highest level of patience is to be steadfast against sins and evil deeds.
To be steadfast against these all bad things aren’t so easy, and it needs self-struggle; as Allah Almighty said in the great book (the Holy Quran):وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي ۚ إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لَأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ إِلَّا مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّي ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
The translation of this verse is: “And I do not acquit myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoiner of evil, except those upon which my Lord has mercy.” (12:53).2.Patience in extreme situations:
This type of patience appears as keeping calm, and keeping the inner peace when a disaster happens. This patience has a very great reward from Allah. Every believer is afflicted, and Allah afflicts those He loves. All of this will be clear when we learn together Hadith onpatience. Allah also said in Surah Baqarah:وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الْخَوْفِ وَالْجُوعِ وَنَقْصٍ مِنَ الأَمْوَالِ وَالأَنْفُسِ وَالثَّمَرَاتِ وَبَشِّرِ الصَّابِرِينَ
The translation of this great verse is:
“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to those who are patient.”(2:155) Abo Malik Al-Ash’ari reported that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:( الطهور شطر الإيمان ، والحمد لله تملأ الميزان ، وسبحان الله والحمد لله تملآن – تملأ – ما بين السماوات والأرض ، والصلاة نور ، والصدقة برهان ، والصبر ضياء ، والقرآن حجة لك أو عليك ، كل الناس يغدو ، فبائع نفسه ، فمعتقها أو موبقها ) رواه مسلم .
