Surah Kafiroon and the cause of its revelation
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ (1) لَا أَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ (2) وَلَا أَنْتُمْ عَابِدُونَ مَا أَعْبُدُ (3) وَلَا أَنَا عَابِدٌ مَا عَبَدْتُمْ (4) وَلَا أَنْتُمْ عَابِدُونَ مَا أَعْبُدُ (5) لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِيَ دِينِ (6)introduction:
The Holy Quran contains 114 Surah, and Surah Kafiroon is the 109th one of them. It was revealed before Surah Fil, and after Surah Maoon. It was the first Surah that was revealed to the Prophet in Mecca before Hijrah. This Surah consists of 6 great verses. Surah Kafiroon transliteration: 1. Kol ya ayoha Al Kafiroon. 2. La bodo ma ta bodoon. 3. Wala antom abidoon ma a’bod. 4. Wala ana abidon ma abadtom. 5. Wala antom abidoon ma abod. 6. Lakom dinokom walia deen.Surah Kafiroon translation_Sahih international:
1. Say “o disbelievers.” 2. I don’t worship what you worship. 3. And you don’t worship what I worship. 4. And I don’t worship what you worship. 5. And you don’t worship what I worship. 6. You have your religion, and I have my religion. Surah Kafiroon related Ahadith: Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to pray 2 Rak’a before Fajr prayer, and used to recite in these 2 Rak’a Surah Kafiroon, and Surah Ikhlas. Also the beloved Prophet asked his people to recite this great Surah before sleeping in order to purify them from polytheism.Simple explanation for Surah Kafiroon:
Due to the greatness of this Surah, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to recite it in the 2 Rak’a before Fajr prayer, and also in the 2 Rak’a that follow Tawaf of Ka’ba. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) advised us to recite Surah Kafiroon as it equals the Quarter of the Holy Quran. The cause of its revelation: It was revealed on our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) once (it wasn’t divided into parts), in presence of a group of polytheists of Quraish when they asked the Messenget of Allah to follow His religion this year, and the second year He would follow their religion, but of course He refused this deal. For this reason and this situation Allah Almighty has revealed this great Surah on His Messenger. When this Surah was revealed, He recited it on the polytheists of Quraish, then they were desperate. The Prophet (SAW) said: ( من قراء: قل يا ايها الكافرون (الكافرون) وقل هو الله احد ( الاخلاص{في فریضة من الفرائض غفر له ولوالدیه وما ولد ، وإن كان شقیّا محي من ّ دیوان الأشقیاء ، وأثبت في دیوان السعداء ، وأحیاه االله تعالى سعیدا ، وأماته شهیدا ، وبعثه شهیدا»
This means:
that whoever recites Surah Kafiroon, and Surah Ikhlas in one of his Fard prayers, Allah will forgive him, his parents and his sons, and Allah Almighty will make them happy and will be written with the Martyrs. So, Surah Kafiroon means that the religion only concerns Allah and no one other than Him, as Allah said in Surah Zumar:بسم الله الرحمن الرجيم
( أَلا لِلَّهِ الدِّينُ الْخَالِصُ )
The greatness of this Surah motivates us to recite it, and not to miss it. See More :Surah Humazah
